A Serene Getaway in Hakone’s Natural Wonders

Hakone thrilled by its misty mountains, crystal-clear Lake Ashi, and that perfect blend of relaxation and exploration. Staying at a cozy wellness spot with incredible onsen baths and lake views made every moment feel like a recharge for the soul. From savoring fresh buffets to catching glimpses of Mount Fuji, it was the ideal escape to unwind and connect with nature.

Arrival and First Impressions

After arriving, we settled into our hotel overlooking Lake Ashi – think steaming onsen pools separated for men and women, and a half-board setup with high-quality breakfast and dinner buffets. Freshly prepared dishes like sushi and grilled meats made meals a highlight. We kicked off with a leisurely stroll along the lakeside, watching the sun dip and letting the peaceful vibe wash over us.

Shopping Spree and Fuji Sighting

Day two took us to the nearby Gotemba outlet, a shopper’s paradise with Japanese brands alongside luxury ones. We scored amazing deals on watches, knives, and clothes – total steals! En route, we caught a breathtaking view of Mount Fuji peeking through the clouds, adding that magical touch. Back at the hotel, the onsen was pure bliss, a quiet space to soak and let thoughts drift away.

Exploring the Mountains and Art

Our third day was all adventure: a cable car ride up to Owakudani for those famous black eggs boiled in volcanic springs – legend says they add seven years to your life! They tasted like regular boiled eggs, but the fun ritual and steamy landscape were unforgettable.

We descended to the Hakone Open-Air Museum, a stunning outdoor gallery with sculptures blending into nature, then hiked to a charming waterfall. Plans for a ferry back shifted when it canceled (oddly, on a sunny day), but we caught a taxi after missing the bus.

A Gentle Farewell

On our last morning, a lakeside walk led us to a beautiful shrine, soaking in the tranquility before heading back to Tokyo. Hakone left me refreshed and inspired – if you’ve been, share your favorite spots in the comments! What’s your go-to relaxation ritual on trips?
