Zen in the Heart of Kyoto: Escaping the City Hustle at Hilton

Our journey from Fukuyama to Kyoto felt like a smooth transition into something special, and arriving at the Hilton Kyoto around noon just amplified that excitement. This brand-new hotel, which opened its doors in September 2024, blends contemporary design with subtle Japanese elegance, making it a perfect hub for exploring the city’s cultural gems like nearby temples and castles. We were instantly charmed by its fresh, welcoming vibe that promised a mix of relaxation and adventure.

Smooth Arrival and Perks

Thanks to my American Express Platinum card granting Gold status with Hilton, we scored an early check-in without any hassle. The real surprise came pre-arrival: an upgrade to the Executive King Premium Room. At 52 square meters instead of the standard 32, it offered plenty of space to unwind after our drive. The location, just a 15-minute ride from JR Kyoto Station, made it super convenient for day trips around the area.

Zen-Inspired Room Haven

Stepping into the room was like entering a serene oasis—absolutely modern with that calming Zen flair we adore in Japan. High-quality finishes, thoughtful details like soft lighting and minimalist decor, left us totally impressed. It wasn’t over-the-top fancy, but everything felt just right, helping us recharge amid Kyoto’s bustling energy.

Lounge Time Bliss

Our first lounge visit in the afternoon was a chill highlight, with coffee, tea, soft drinks, cakes, and nuts in a relaxed top-floor setting overlooking the city. Come evening from 5:30 PM, it transformed into a cozy cocktail hour—beer, champagne, cocktails you could mix yourself with gin, vodka, whiskey, or sake. It was the perfect spot to wind down and chat about our day’s explorations.

Memorable Dinner at 7 Embers

On our second night, we treated ourselves to the omakase menu at the hotel’s 7 Embers restaurant, a delightful Italian-Japanese fusion spot. Seven standout courses, plus an amuse-bouche, bread service, and petit fours, showcased fresh flavors without being pretentious. Our Gold status snagged us a 25% discount, bringing the total with water to about €130—totally worth it for such a satisfying meal.

Wrapping up our stay, the Hilton Kyoto left us with that warm, inspired feeling you chase on travels. If you’re heading to Kyoto, give it a try and share your own lounge favorites in the comments—I’d love to hear!
